A 21-year-old youth and his seven-year-old cousin were crushed to death when a speeding car hit their motorcycle head on. The mishap occurred on the Sector 2-3 dividing road near Chandigarh Club. The car was a Honda Accord and had two girls as occupants with one of them driving.

The deceased have been identified as Sukhvinder Singh (21) and his brother,Harpreet (7). Both were residents of Kansal village and were heading home after purchasing medicines from Government Multi Specialty Hospital ,Sector 16,for Sukhvinder’s mother.

Sarabjit,a passerby, was witness to the accident and said that the car (CH03 R 0018) came from the Lake side and was apparently racing with a Swift that was also being driven by a girl.

As the Honda tried to overtake the white Swift car (PB 65 E 2040),it collided head on with the bike. Both Sukhvinder and Harpreet sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to the PGI. While the seven-year-old was declared dead on arrival,Sukhvinder, too, succumbed to his injuries later.

Meanwhile,Sarabjit said that after the accident, the two girls got down from the car and fled with their friend in the Swift. Both of them were in an inebriated state,he claimed. The girls are believed to be students of KBDAV,but they are still unidentified. The Honda has been traced to a Sector-36 resident, who is a retired colonel.

At the PGI,the family members were inconsolable. Father of Sukhvinder,Ravinder Singh said that he was the second of five children. Harpreet, who was the son of Ravinder’s brother,Dalbir Singh, was the youngest of three siblings.
