Son of the sarpanch of Tugal village,Sukhraj Singh, was found dead under mysterious conditions on Gardri Baba Road,Dudhike,on Sunday.

Police said the final-year college student died sometime on Saturday night and only postmortem could confirm the exact cause of his death. The body was found lying on his motorcycle this morning.

SSP Moga Sneh Deep Sharma said,“A panel of four doctors are conducting the postmortem and we will know the exact cause of death after the report comes in.”

The police have lodged an FIR against four persons — Balbir Singh, the former sarpanch; Jagdev Singh; Harbans Singh and Jagjit Singh — based on the statement of the deceased’s father. No arrests have been made so far.

Meanwhile, controversy over Sukhraj’s death is gaining momentum after his father Gurbaksh Singh alleged that his son’s death was not an accident but a political murder.

Gurbaksh Singh is a former loyalist of the SAD (B) faction, but left the party following some serious difference with the powerful Akali family of Jagdev Singh Talwandi. He joined the Akali splinter group,SAD (1920) and enjoyed Congress’s backing.

Rivalry among the two factions is a common feature in the village with more than a dozen FIRs lodged against each other.
