The first-ever Chandigarh Social Science Congress kicked off at the Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday. The Congress was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the Univeristy,Prof R C Sobti.
Sobti said that social reality has become more complex,multi-dimensional and prone to change. In this backdrop,the single dimensional approach in social science disciplines should pave the way for multi-disciplinary approaches in teaching and research.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Sudesh Nangia,who was earlier associated with JNU,Delhi. She elaborated upon the multi-dimensionality of globalization. Historian and former Vice-Chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University,Prof J S Grewal,congratulated the University for organising the Congress and added that the Congress is the first step to bring various disciplines together,which will allow the study of mankind and environment in a holistic manner. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dean of University Instruction,Prof B S Brar.
The session was chaired by Professor Emeritus,Dept of Fine Arts,PU,Prof B N Goswamy and said that today there is a flood of information but a famine of knowledge.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dean of Research,PU,Prof M R Khurana.
