Barring the transportation and F&B cost,it’s an “almost zero budget film”,exactly the way city-based filmmaker Calib Logan had envisioned it to be. Try To Understand is a 30-minute-long silent love story directed by 23-year-old Logan with actors Monika Pawar and Jashan Jot Singh. “There are no dialogues, just expression and movement,” says Logan, who is part of the city-based production house,The Theatre Army Productions and has produced the film under it. Right from the concept,to writing, scripting, editing and directing,Logan has handled all the departments. The Amritsar-born filmmaker has come a long way, from theatre to films. According to him, cinema or filmmaking is something one understands and learns on the job,and doesn’t need to go to any film or acting school for it. “Film production activities in Chandigarh take place for maximum six months, from October to March-April,after which one is free for the rest of the year. So,I invest this free time in reading books on cinema and watching movies by Steven Spielberg,Quentin Tarantino,James Cameron,Marlon Brando,Meryl Streep and Amitabh Bachchan,’’ says Logan who has worked as line producer behind the scenes on films such as West is West,Mausam,Teen Thay Bhai,Quissa,Surkhab,Yamley Jatt Yamley and Pinky Mogewali. Next up is a comic he is working on along with graphic designer George Emmaneal. “It’s a superhero comic and is still in initial stages. I am ideating and scripting for it,” he says. Produced by Gaurav Sharma and Gabbar Sangrur, the film has been sponsored by Dreams Event Organisation and presented by The Time Machine Pictures.
