Sibal to release stamp on PU foundation day

150th birth anniversary of Prof Ruchi Ram Sahni also to be celebrated

A national seminar on ‘The Making of Modern Punjab: Education,Science and Social Change in Punjab’ will be organised at Panjab University (PU) from October 24 to 26.

Union Communication Minister Kapil Sibal will address the seminar,being organised as the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Professor Ruchi Ram Sahni and PU Foundation Day public lecture at University Auditorium. Sibal will also release a stamp in honor of Professor Sahni on this occasion.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Chandigarh MP and Senator of PU Pawan Kumar Bansal and a number of other distinguished PU Alumni will also participate in the three-day programme.

PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover said Professor Gurdial Singh will deliver the Foundation Day lecture on October 24,followed by a panel discussion on Science,Technology and its Popularisation.

Biographer and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi,Professor Rajmohan Gandhi will chair the invited

lectures by Professor J S Grewal and Professor Kamlesh Mohan on the second day of the programme.

On October 26,there will be a panel discussion on the topic ‘Higher Education in Punjab: Achievements and Challenges’. In this panel discussion,various serving and former Vice Chancellors of Punjab,Haryana,Delhi and Himachal Pradesh will participate. Himachal Pradesh University V-C Prof ADN Bajpai,Kurukshetra University V-C Lt Gen DDS Sandhu,former V-C of University of Delhi Prof Deepak Pental,V-C of University of Delhi Prof Dinesh Singh,Central University of Punjab V-C Prof Jai Rup Singh,Punjabi University V-C Prof Jaspal Singh are those among who will attend the programme.
