The Chandigarh Police are now looking for a mysterious woman, who not only duped an NRI by marrying him,but also married his Canadian national son before deserting both of them to elope with somebody else. The woman is wanted in a 10-year-old murder case in Uttar Pradesh, for obtaining a fake passport on forged documents in Punjab, and for cheating three men after marrying them in Chandigarh. In fact, the Operations Cell of Chandigarh Police is now probing her involvement in terrorist activities as well.

Rajinder Singh Mann had come to India in 2001 and had been staying in Sector 11. The woman, identified as Priya Inder Kaur, approached him and started living in the same house as a tenant. Mann had earlier divorced his Canadian wife and had a son from that marriage,Rajan.

According to Mann, when he could not verify Priya’s antecedents,he forced her out of his house. She then moved into a paying guest accommodation in Sector 19; but after a few months, she once again approached Mann, and this time, demanded a job from him. Mann said he felt pity on her and hired her as a domestic help.

That was the beginning of a relationship that eventually culminated in marriage in September 2001. “She must have thought that being an NRI,I shall take her along to Canada; but when I told her that I did not have any plans to return to that country soon, she started behaving weird, and eventually divorced me in February 2002,” Mann told Newsline.

“After staying away for a few years, she came to meet me again at my residence in 2004. Incidentally,I was not at home then,as I had gone to my farmhouse in Kasauli. My son,Rajan Mann, who had come from Canada for hair treatment at PGI,met her. She learnt that he was an NRI and befriended him. They even went to Leh on a holiday, and eventually got married. She never told my son that she had already married and divorced me. When my son learnt this,he was shocked and immediately divorced her. Her dreams of going to Canada were again foiled,” Mann added.

He further said that both he and his son have lodged a complaint of cheating and forgery against Priya,as they have learnt that she had been visiting the Canadian High Commission to inquire about Rajan and if he could sponsor her a trip to Canada.

“The Delhi Police were alerted about her,but before they could arrest her from outside the Canadian High Commission, she had left the place,” Mann said.

Inspector Malkit Singh of the Operations Cell,Chandigarh Police, said: “We are looking for the woman,as the charges levelled against her by the NRI appear quite serious. All our efforts to trace her in Punjab have proved futile,as neither she nor any of her family members are staying at the given addresses. We suspect she might have escaped from the country, but we are probing the matter.”
