The Senior Citizens Welfare Association,Manimajra,celebrated Elders Day on Sunday at the DC Montessori (Smart) School,Manimajra. The function was organised in collaboration with Major General M S Kandal (Retd),president of Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal was the chief guest while Professor Raj Bahadur,Director-Principal GMCH was the guest of honour.
Senior citizens from various walks of life were felicitated on the occasion. Professor Raj Bahadur was honoured for his services in the field of medical research,B B Gupta,Principal DC Montessori School and H S Nagra,president,Residents Welfare Federation,MHC,were given recognition in the field of Value Based Education and Social Service respectively. Also,special mementos were given to members of the association who were 75 years old and above. School bags and boxes of sweets were distributed to more than 50 children from various slum areas.
Addressing the gathering,Bansal said,Aging is inevitable but todays senior citizens have given the best part of their lives to build the society. They are rich repository of cultural values and professional expertise.
Professor Raj Bahadur also assured senior citizens that GMCH,Sector 32,will continue to extend preferential treatment to them all.
