Sector 47 abduction: 3 arrested

The victim found some solace when she identified three accused arrested on Wednesday evening,though the main accused is still at large. The three were remanded in one-day police custody by a court on Thursday.

The three accused have been identified as Abhay Pathak,31,Vinod Kumar,36,and Baljit Singh,22,all residents of Sector 47. According to the police,they have been previously involved in thefts,snatching and robberies.

The main accused,Monu,a resident of Burail,had tried to outrage her modesty. “Due to insult at public place,Monu wanted to teach her a lesson. So we abducted her,but we panicked after we saw a PCR vehicle on the dividing road of Sector 19 and 27. Therefore,we decided to let her go and pushed her out of the car near Sector 26,” the accused said during interrogation.

The incident had happened on March 16 when the 25-year-old victim was abducted by the four accused in a car bearing Delhi’s registration number. “The accused had first stolen the car,abducted the woman,threatened her and then pushed her out of the car in Sector 26,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) Surjit Singh Malik.

According to the complaint filed by the victim,Monu had tried to outrage her modesty at Sector 47 market on March 15. Following this,she slapped him. The next day,Monu along with three others kidnapped her while she was on her way home from the Sector 47 market at 8.30 pm.

Senior Superintendent of Police R S Ghumman said,”During preliminary investigation,it came to light that the accused were already involved in robbery,snatching and theft cases. The three arrested had met Monu in Model Jail,Chandigarh. After they were released from jail in August last year,they have been close friends.”

On Wednesday,the police received a tip-off that three suspects involved in the case were in Sector 47. A special team was formed comprising Inspector Jaspal Singh,SI Randhir Singh and Head Constable Jatinder Singh. They arrested the three accused after the complainant identified them.

The accused have been booked for abduction and outraging the modesty of a woman.

While Abhay has been arrested six times in cases of thefts and robberies by police station Sector 31,39 and Manimajra previously,Vinod Kumar and Baljit Singh have been arrested by the police station Sector 31 once each in separate cases.
