It’s one of Punjab’s favourite love legends and filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is all set to bring it to life in these contemporary times. Busy with the post production of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,Mehra is on with the ground work on Mirza,a contemporary love story based on the legendary love saga of Mirza and Sahibaan. Although he prefers to write his own scripts, this time around,Mehra will be making an exception and has entrusted the job to lyricist, screenwriter and poet Gulzar. Mehra, who always wanted to work with Gulzar, says he was waiting for the right opportunity. “I was 22 when I had gone to meet Gulzar with a copy of Devdas and asked him to write a script for it. He didn’t know me and I just walked up to him, kept the book on his table and said,‘I want you to write this film for me.’ And now 27 years later,he is actually writing a film for me. It’s a dream-come-true for me,” says a release quoting Mehra. The director had got the idea of screen adaptation of the legend of Mirza-Sahibaan during the making of Delhi 6.
