Science has once again scored over other streams and emerged as the most preferred option for students seeking admission to Class XI. Apart from choosing the right stream, students are also opting for their choice of school, with Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 16 and Sector 35 being the hot favourites.
The process of depositing centralised admission forms for Class XI in government schools is underway at various schools across the city. Within the science stream,non-medical subjects were the most sought after. The non-medical stream will help me get a professional degree and enhance my prospects of becoming an engineer, said a student Dikshant Malik.
Science is one subject that is experienced in everyday life. Moreover, engineers stand a better chance of getting jobs than others, said Shivani Dhull, another student.
That parents play an instrumental role in deciding the subjects of their wards was evident as some students admitted that it was for them (their parents) that they chose science. My parents have always wanted me to become a doctor. I have chosen the medical stream though I am not sure whether I will be able to devote long hours of study required, felt Pallavi Singla, another student.
While some students succumbed to parental pressure, there were others who were interested in pursuing science for its sheer knowledge and practical application. The stars and the universe have always fascinated me. No humanities subject will help me achieve my dream of becoming an astronaut, remarked Akhil G. The second favourite was clearly the commerce stream with most students aiming to become chartered accountants. Economics and accounts have always been my area of interest. Also science scares me no end. So I chose commerce, said Ankush,a student.
Commerce does not demand long hours of study and also comes in handy while preparing for CAT. So the subject was chosen after detailed analysis, shared Vikrant.
