SAD MLA dies after heart attack

Sitting Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Nawanshahar,Jatinder Singh Kariha,died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack. He was 63.

He is survived by his wife,four daughters,a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. His only son,Major Hira Singh Sandhu,had died in January. “He was all right. He returned from Chandigarh last night and after having his meal and watching TV,went to sleep,” said a family member. In the morning,his wife found him dead.

Kariha had inherited his political legacy from his father Hardev Singh Kariha. He won his first elections in 1977 by defeating Congress stalwart Dilbagh Singh. He also won in the 2000 and 2007 elections. Kariha will be cremated around 11 am on Friday at Kariha village. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will attend his funeral.
