IN the wake of the ongoing protests in Punjab, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to postpone its annual march, held before Vijay Dashmi to commemorate its foundation day.
“As police and the administration are busy providing proper security to gurdwaras and temples in the wake of the repeated desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib, we have decided to postpone the annual march for the time being,” said RSS general secretary Yashgiri.
“Police would have to provide security for the march as well, which does not seem to be possible as of now. So in larger public interest, we have decided to call it off,” he added.
Yashgiri, however, said other functions to mark the foundation day on October 22 will go ahead as planned. “In Ludhiana alone, we will be holding conventions at three different places on October 22. Programmes will also be held in other districts. The march is the only thing we have postponed as of now,” he said.
