Chief minister gives sacred status to Chamkaur Sahib

Offering a new year gift,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday made a formal announcement to accord division status to Ropar.

The fifth division headquarter to cover Ropar,Mohali and their adjoining districts will start working with the appointment of a senior IAS officer as its first Commissioner in the second week of January.

So far,there are four division headquarters — Ferozepur,Faridkot,Jalandhar and Patiala — in Punjab and the new Ropar division will comprise parts of its adjoining Patiala and Jalandhar divisions. Already,Ropar has been made a police division with the posting of a senior IPS officer,Gurpreet Deo,as its first DIG recently.

The CM made this announcement at a sangat darshan programmes that he conducted despite heavy rain at Chamkaur Sahib and Bela in Ropar district.

Badal also announced to accord sacred status to Chamkaur Sahib on the lines of Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib by formally prefixing “Sri” to its name.

Interacting with the residents of 65 village panchayats of the area,the CM promised to complete on priority and at the earliest the ongoing work on a theme park being built in the memory of the elder Sahibzadas,Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jhujhar Singh,of the tenth Sikh Guru,Gobind Singh,in Chamkaur Sahib.
