The Haryana Police recently arrested three persons in Bengaluru for the murder of international bodybuilder Rohit Dhankhar, 26, who was a resident of Rohtak in Haryana.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Varun, a resident of Tigraana village in Bhiwani district, his brother Tarun, and Deepak.

Sharing the information of their arrest on X, DGP O P Singh posted, “They will rot in jail for years.”

On November 28, Rohit Dhankhar had gone to Bhiwani, where he had an argument with some youths. Those youths brutally assaulted him, and he died during treatment at Rohtak PGI the following day.

Meanwhile, a khap panchayat was held at Jat Bhavan in Rohtak Saturday to discuss the case.

Hooda Khap chief Om Prakash said that “four decisions were taken in today’s mahapanchayat. If not all the accused are arrested by December 16, the case should be transferred elsewhere. Second, a delegation of Saroha Khap will meet Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on December 16. Third, the family should be given a government job and financial assistance of Rs 1 crore. Lastly, it was decided that if these demands are not met by December 16, an even bigger mahapanchayat will be called.”

Earlier this week, O P Singh, while speaking to SP Bhiwani on the phone, had expressed his displeasure, saying that “several days had passed since the incident, and the failure to arrest the accused was a matter of shame for the police. The police should have arrested the accused immediately. When the police have CCTV footage and the vehicle of the accused, why have they not been caught yet?”

Rohit Dhankhar worked as a bodybuilder and gym trainer at the Gymkhana Club in Sector 4, Rohtak. Among his various achievements, he had previously won gold medals at national-level competitions. He was also honoured by the then chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, on August 15, 2018.
