Thrill and passion are the two most vital ingredients for any car enthusiast, especially when its a 4×4 off-roading one. Members of the 4×4 Off Roader Club (Regd) kept this spirit alive,on their recent Monsoon 4 Wheel Drive Challenge organised by North India Off Road Club,New Delhi on August 14. The 20-member team returned from Gurgaon after negotiating sandy, muddy, slushy and rocky terrains with challenging inclines and gradients. Sponsored by Michelin tyres, the event was flagged off by Sanjay Paharia,an off-road enthusiast from Leisure Valley in Sector 29,Gurgaon.
Around 70 vehicles and a few vintage cars participated in the 36-kilometre long trail, which included 15 kilometres of off-road driving through the Aravallies in Badshspur and Shikohpu village near Gurgaon. The vehicles were divided into seven groups of 10 each. Each group was led by a marshal, guiding participants through the taxing terrains. Four different routes were selected on the basis of off roading competence of the vehicles and participants.
The only family team from Chandigarh,Jaspal Tiwana with his wife and daughter, combined the thrill of an off-road drive with a family trip. We had never anticipated that an off-road experience could also be so much fun for families. We spent good time together and yet pushed ourselves to perform better.
Inspecting the dirt and grime on his vehicle,Zoravar Singh, says,It was a great topography to explore and it also helped us learn more about the sport. Unfortunately,it was only for a day, adds Gurtej Bawal, another rallyist turned off-roader.
