2 injured; 3 teens on motorcycle were on way to college to appear for exams
In a tragic accident,a 19-year-old youth died today when a red-beaconed vehicle driven in a rash and negligent manner rammed into a bike carrying three teenagers. Vivek Chaudhary was on his way to the Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology (SUSCET),Tangori,with two friends Charanpreet and Amandeep Singh when the vehicle,an escort of a religious leader,rammed into their bike.
While Vivek succumbed to his injuries in hospital,Charanpreet suffered a fracture in his leg and Amandeep Singh sustained head injuries. The duo were discharged from Amar Hospital in Sector 70,Mohali,late in the evening.
The incident took place at around 10:45 am when they were going to the College to appear for their examination. The three,pursuing their diploma in engineering,were riding on the bike when the vehicle hit them from one side. Jumping the red light,Hardeep Singh,the driver of the a Bolero pik up hit the bike near Industrial Focal Point in Phase VIIIB,Mohali. Hardeep Singh was arrested by the Mohali police at the spot and booked on charges of rash and negligent driving. Of the three,Charanpreet was the only one wearing a helmet.
Vivek was the youngest among his siblings and has two sisters. His father Sohan Lal works as a senior assistant in the Vidhan Sabha while his mother is a housewife. The family lives in a government quarter in Sector 39D. Vivek had done his schooling from Sharda Sarvhitkari Senior Secondary School,Sector 40,and was studying Civil Engineering.
One of the police officers said,The vehicle is escort of Baba Balbir Singh,head of Gurdwara Mata Sunder Kaur in Sector 70. It is a bullet-proof vehicle and was sporting a red beacon. The driver was alone in the vehicle. The driver jumped the red light at high speed not releasing that the bike was coming from the other side.
