Following stiff opposition from within,Lok Bhalai Party (LBP) chief Balwant Singh Ramoowalia on Tuesday postponed the party’s merger with SAD (B) for the moment. After facing strong opposition from a large number of party leaders at a meeting held in Jalandhar on Monday,Ramoowalia was faced with a similar resistance in another meeting as well.

Though Ramoowali had promised to take a “final decision” in regard to the merger by Tuesday,in a late evening press release,LBP stated that the party will take a call after visiting 62 Assembly constituencies in Malwa region, where it is supposed to have a strong votebank.

“Party leaders will visit these constituencies to judge the actual political position of the party there and after doing all analysis,it (party) will declare its final decision,” the note stated.

On Monday, leaders had openly expressed their resentment in their speeches against the SAD (B). Ramoowalia, too, had to condemn the SAD (B) and the Congress by terming them as parties having assumed reins of power with “haram da paisa”,booth capturing and distributing truckloads of liquor during elections. He took potshots at the Congress by saying that though the party had promised him Lok Sabha ticket from Sangrur,it did not honour its commitment.
