Ranji player falls from second floor roof,dies

A 39-year-old cricketer,who played in the Ranji Trophy,died after falling from the roof of his house in Sector 45 late on Friday night.

A 39-year-old cricketer,who played in the Ranji Trophy,died after falling from the roof of his house in Sector 45 late on Friday night. Satnam Singh was employed as a clerk in the office of Accountant General,Haryana.

The incident took place around midnight when Satnam had gone to sleep on the terrace on the second floor.

He allegedly fell from the terrace after which the neighbours raised an alarm and the police was called. Satnam sustained severe head injury.

He was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Expressing possibility that it could be a case of suicide,the victim’s mother Maniit Kaur said he had been depressed over his ongoing matrimonial dispute.

“He longed to meet his son and used to stay quiet,” Manjit said.

The police said Satnam and his wife were living separately for the last five years and that their son stayed with his wife in Jagadhari.

Their marriage,the police added,was on the verge of breakdown.

The police have ruled out any foul play.

“It seems to be a case of suicide although we are probing all angles. We have ruled out any foul play. The family has also not expressed any suspicion behind the death,” sub inspector Narinder Patial,in-charge of Burail police post,said.

The postmortem of the deceased was conducted at the hospital in Sector 16 on Saturday.

Only ten months ago,Satnam’s elder brother was allegedly murdered by four assailants after being robbed in Sector 21 in the city.

Arash Pal Singh was also employed as a clerk in the office of AG,Haryana.

Maniit Kaur said Arash’s “murder had also depressed him”.
