It was again a day of upsets in the tournament as Ranjeet Singh scored a shock 3-6,7-5,6-0 win over second seed Kamal Kishore Maderna to win the boys’ U-16 singles title in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament which concluded at CLTA courts on Friday.
Singh lost the first set with a 3-6 margin before claiming the second set with a narrow margin of 7-5 to keep his hopes alive in the match. In the second set,Singh was down 1-4 at one stage of the set but Singh regrouped his energies and rallies to take the second set with a margin of 7-5. Singh then easily claimed the third and final set with a 6-0 margin to claim the title.
In the girls’ U-16 singles final,Bhavya Wadhawan ended the challenge of Aashima Garg in straight sets 6-1,6-2 to claim the title. Playing a fine baseline game,Bhavya claimed the first set with a margin of 6-1 before claiming the second set with a 6-2 margin to claim the title with ease.
In the boys’ U-12 singles final,Paramveer Singh Bajwa of Chandigargh ended the challenge of Karandeep Singh with an emphatic 6-4,6-1 win. Bajwa claimed the first set with a 6-4 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-1 margin to claim the title.
It was a huge relief for Bajwa as Karandeep had sent most of the top seeds packing earlier in the tournament. In the girls’ U-12 singles final,Jennifer Luikham of Haryana ended the challenge of Saumya Saxena with a resounding 6-4,6-1 win. Playing a controlled game,Jennifer claimed the first with a margin of 6-4 before claiming the second set with a margin of 6-1 to claim the title.
