Rajeshwar Football Club and Rajput Football Club came up with clinical performances to move ahead in the senior’s category in the on-going 5th Kanwar Harbans Lal Memorial Football Championship played at the Sector 17 Football stadium on Tuesday.
In the first match,Rajeshwar Club recorded a facile 3-0 win over RBI Club. It was Ankur Khanna who opened the account for Rajeshwar in the 12th minute through a neatly taken free-kick that caught opposition keeper by surprise. Then,after the break,Rakesh Singh of RBI Football Club clashed with the goalkeeper and conceded an own goal in the 47th minute. Deepak Hooda hit the final nail in RBI’s coffin with a powerful drive in the 56th minute.
Meanwhile,Rajput Football Club had to toil hard before beating DAV Club by a solitary goal. Amardeep’s strike in the 12th minute was enough to see the team through. Ramandeep was also imprssive in his role as a midfielder and shred DAV defence to pieces with his passes on several occassions.
In the junior section,it was the Chandigarh Football Academy boys who maintained their superiority by thrashing St Soldier School,Sector 28,by 3-0. Tehleel was in the thick of action and blasted a powerful shot to put the team into lead as early as in the 13th minute. Ten minutes later,Inder doubled the lead,while Jatinder scored the third goal in 29th minute to help the team register an easy win. St Solder School’s goalkeeper Lakshay showed his brilliance under the bar and made some fine saves.
