Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday appointed urologist Dr Rajeev Sood as the vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) in Faridkot. He has been appointed for a period of three years, with effect from the date of his assumption of office.

Dr Sood, who was the former Dean of PGIMER-Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in New Delhi, has an experience of over 40 years in medical practice and was also the neurosurgeon of former President Pranab Mukherjee.
The appointment comes almost a year after the unceremonious resignation of spinal surgeon and then V-C Dr Raj Bahadur following misbehaviour by then health minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra during a surprise check. In July last year, Jouramajra had come under fire from several quarters after he was seen forcing Dr Bahadur to lie on a dirty mattress at a hospital.

The five included Dr Rakesh Sehgal from nuclear medicine department, PGIMER, former professor of Rajindra Medical College, Patiala, Prof Baljinder Singh, former professor
and HOD of microbiology department of GMCH-32

Dr KK Aggarwal, Professor Jagdish Chander and Dr Rajeev Sood from Delhi. Sources said that the Governor interviewed all the five experts and was impressed with Dr Sood, who was Dean of RML for five-and-a-half years and founder Dean of ABVIMS for over a year.

Dr Sood was also attached to Parliament as Uro Consultant for 10 years and was the Uro Consultant to the former President Pranab Mukherjee for 5 years. His teaching experience includes 26 years Post MCh and 12 years as a professor. Dr Sood graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi and cleared MS (General Surgery) from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and PGIMER in Delhi and subsequently did MCh (Urology) from AIIMS Delhi, a press release stated.
