Panjab University’s dominance in the Peace Cup continued with another clinical performance as they thrashed Zelaingrong Students Club Chandigarh by 7-1 in the final of 6th Peace Cup to retain the cup at the Sector 17 Football stadium on Wednesday. It was Punjab University’s third title in a row.
PU-I make their intensions clear from the beginning as they found the opener in the first-ten minutes of the match. Zeliangrong soon restored parity and had the match evenly balanced at 1-1 but PU-I scored two quick goals to go into the breather with a 4-1 lead. After the break,PU-I continued with their aggressive game and pumped in three more goals. It was hard for Zeliangrong to make a comeback after this and conceded the match easily to the defending champions.
Meanwhile,Shubham Gupta of St. Stephen’s Football Club was given the golden boot award for scoring the maximum number of goals in the tournament.
