The Panjab University is geared up to hold the 59th annual convocation on Wednesday.
Special honours would be awarded to a few known personalities in the university Gymnasium,where the function would be held. As per the new initiative taken by the university,students of a few departments will receive degrees in a new format,which would have a passport size photograph of the student printed on it.
The university would honour Dr A R Kidwai,former Governor of Haryana,H K Dua,nominated Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and former Editor-in-chief of The Tribune,Professor Govardhan Mehta,eminent scientist,CSIR,Bhatnagar Fellow and Professor at the India Institute of Science,Bangalore and formerly Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad. Rajpal Singh,the captain of the Indian hockey team in the World Cup,would also be honoured with a graduation degree.
The Udyog Ratan Award would be given to S P Oswal,Chairman of the Vardhman Group.
The Vigyan Ratan would be awarded to renowned scientist,Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and former Director of UGC Professor Yash Pal.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee would address the convocation while Jagannath Pahadia,Governor of Haryana,Pawan Kumar Bansal,Union Cabinet Minister,Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources and Manpreet Singh Badal,Finance Minister,Punjab,would grace the occasion.
