The School of Punjabi Studies of the Panjab University along with over 250 students condemned the Delhi University decision for deleting elective Punjabi subject from the syllabus. A protest march was also organised on Wednesday from the Punjabi department to Gandhi Bhawan. National Students Union of India (NSUI) also supported the protest.
Dr Yog Raj Angrish,one of the teachers,said, Some how the DU has deleted the elective subject of Punjabi. With this,many of the teachers in the Delhi colleges will be left free and such a move is against the Punjabi culture and heritage.
Already,around 27 literary organizations are organizing protests in various parts of the state. The varsitys Punjabi department has decided to write a letter to the DU V-C ,and the Chief Minister of the capital.
NSUI National President Rohit Chaudhary also assured that the party would take up issue with the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
