Punjab and Haryana HC on Thursday directed the Chandigarh Administration to provide basic amenities to residents of Milk Colony,Dhanas without fail.
However, the high court refused to interfere in the conversion of premises allowed by the Administration. Disposing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by residents of the colony,a division bench on Thursday directed the Administration to ensure that basic amenities and other facilities required to breed cattle be provided to the residents.
The petitioners had also challenged a decision of the Administration whereby it had decided to allow use of the area for residential purposes on payment of Rs 1,000 per square yard. Challenging this decision petitioners had averred that the said area was allotted for exclusive use of breeding cattle and cannot be converted into residential premises.
