State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday demanded a high-level probe into the circumstances that made Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Professor A S Brar submit an affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Chandigarh: State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday demanded a high-level probe into the circumstances that made Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Professor A S Brar submit an affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court,withdrawing the university’s claim over prime land worth Rs 200 crore at Basti Nau in Jalandhar. The former Chief Minister alleged that land sharks patronised by Bikram Majithia — the brother-in-law of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal — has a definite role to play in this affidavit submitted by the V-C.

GNDU protest enters fifth day

Amritsar: The mass movement of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) teachers against the alleged autocratic and self-serving means of Vice-Chancellor Professor A S Brar entered its fifth day on Tuesday. The teachers staged a dharna in front the V-C office,demanding a just and equitable environment in the university and respect for the university’s rules and regulations and those put in place by UGC and AICTE. Dr Sohinderbir Singh,senior faculty member from the Punjabi Department,alleged that he was refused one-week leave by the V-C without any logic.

Blaming party,BJP councillor resigns

Patiala: Levelling a series of allegations,including that of her family having received threatening calls at the behest of Patiala Mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli,BJP councillor Sarita Gera resigned from the party in Patiala on Tuesday. Gera also accused the party leadership of cold shouldering her. Announcing her resignation,Gera said she was unable to represent the residents of her ward as she was being sidelined in the Municipal Corporation at the behest of the Mayor,who she alleged was ignoring illegal constructions in areas like Bhupindra road.
