The packed travelling schedule might be keeping her occupied, but jewellery designer Farah Khan did manage to take out time to present an exhibition comprising her recent work at the Samsaara store at Taj,Chandigarh, during the weekend. I always look forward to Chandigarh. My collection gets a great response here, and I also have some friends in the city, says Khan. Looking resplendent in a black and red ensemble, she adds,Punjab is a great market for me. Given the fact that the bridal season is on,I have brought some opulent pieces, but it is accompanied by a pret line of pocket-friendly jewellery.
With her new flagship store scheduled to open at DLF Emporio in Delhi later this year, the past few months have been particularly busy for the graduate from the American Gemological Institute. While opulent, bold designs and intricate detailing have been a trademark of her collection, she also has a pret line. I realised that a lot of women wanted to own my jewellery but the prices were a deterrent,so I launched a pret collection, says Khan, who has been designing jewellery for over 17 years.
When it comes to taking inspiration for designing her jewellery,Khan often turns to nature. My last collection was about animals and I am now taking that forward with a Save the Tiger charity show, says the designer, who is also in talks with the Ministry of Environment for a show slated in March. The range of jewellery will be themed on the tiger. It has taken me a while for getting the right facial expressions in my pieces. The range includes cubs playing and a mother tiger cuddling her cub, adds Khan. Recently, she had worn a neckpiece that depicted a lazing tiger. The awareness would go a long way in saving the precious predator. The funds generated from the show will go to NGOs working to save our national animal, she states.
The idea of doing something with the tiger came to Khan while she was working on a school project with her son. Sometimes we should think beyond ourselves. Through the initiative I hope to do my bit, says Khan. She adds,Most of us fret over the stuff we dont have, when we should be thankful for what we have. I have started doing that and it has brought a magical change in my life. Her idea of a perfect holiday? When I am with a pencil and paper, she smiles.
