PPCB to outsource work to enlisted chartered engineers

The Punjab Pollution Control Board is mulling to outsource to chartered engineers — to be enlisted by the Board shortly — the inspection,verification and certification of data related to pollution control norms of all categories of industries and organisations.

Board chairman Kahan Sing Pannu,in a press statement,said that qualified charted engineers/organisations with five years of experience in the field of pollution control will be enlisted. “The initial validity of each chartered engineer enlisted will be for a period of two years. After assessing their performance,it will be extended from time to time,” he added.

He further said that these enlisted chartered engineers will be authorised to certify the adequacy of the proposed pollution control devices of the project,visit the site to check and certify that the project fulfills all conditions imposed by the Board in the no-objection certificate (NOC).

“The engineer will be competent to certify the contents of the application submitted by the project proponent to the Board and submit a copy of inspection/visit report along with the photograph of pollution control devices to the concerned regional officer of the Board,” Pannu said.

He added that this step will facilitate industries and organisations,seeking consent and authorisation/registration from the Board,to submit papers without waiting for the visit by officials,thereby avoiding delay in the commissioning of the project.

“This will further reduce the workload of the Board engineers,” said Pannu.
