Powerless,Mohali residents spend one more sleepless night

Snag not fixed; Kharar pockets too without power since 11 pm Thursday.

With the snag in the 66-KV power supply sub-station in Sector 68 here not yet fixed,a large number of residents in Sector 69,70,71 and their adjoining areas spent another sleepless night on Thursday. Also,various parts of Kharar are still without power supply since 11 pm on Thursday continuously.

The power outages have thrown the normal life out of gear but the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officials concerned seem least bothered to normalise the power supply system. After remaining powerless from 10 am on Wednesday to 6 am on Thursday continuously and frequent tripping during daytime,the Mohali residents were in for another harassment when they faced frequent tripping and voltage fluctuation throughout Thursday night.

With the tripping frequency every 5-10 minutes continuously,several residents even suffered damage of electrical gadgets. We are left in the lurch with the present power supply system turning out to be a total failure, rued Renuka,a housewife in Sector 69.

Another resident Sarvesh quipped,Despite hiking power tariff time and again,PSPCL is least bothered to provide satisfactory power supply. Confirming the problem,PSPCL Sub-Divisional Engineer Paramjit Singh said since the faulty circuit breaker was not yet replaced or repaired by the concerned wing,overloading of other two sub-stations,from where Mohali areas have been temporarily connected,led to frequent tripping and voltage fluctuation.

Today again I have requested senior officials to get the snag fixed forthwith but till it is not done,the problem will persist, he added. In Kharar,several areas on Chandigarh Road,Main Bazaar,Ram Bagh,Grain Market and other parts were without power supply since Thursday night and the breakdown continued till reports last came in.
