Police probing immigration firms which shut shop

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Chandigarh police probing the immigration racket in the region are also looking into the companies who had closed their offices after allegedly cheating people with a promise to send them abroad.

Police sources in SIT said that the investigation to look for such companies started after an absconding directors of Sector 8 based Shri Sai Kripa Immigration Services Pvt Ltd was arrested by the police on Friday. The company,had closed its office after duping dozens of youth from the region. “We are investigating cases where the companies have closed the offices and fled,” said a police officer in SIT. The SIT is raiding various places in Chandigarh and Punjab to nab the absconding directors of such firms.

In fact,complaints against such companies are pouring in with SIT. In one such compliant,over 12 persons complained that a Sector 35 based company had taken about Rs 20 lakh from them for sending them abroad. “But neither were they sent nor their money was returned,” said a police officer.

The Chandigarh police had constituted the SIT after a Rs 8 crore immigration racket was unearthed by them on August 13 when they raided the office of Healthyway Immigration in Sector 42,and found that hundreds of people from the region had been cheated by the company.
