Police book MLA for threatening SDM

The Shimla police on Monday booked Congress MLA from Choupal in Shimla district Subhash Manglet under non-bailable sections for allegedly threatening a Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Shimla Superintendent of Police R M Sharma said,An FIR under sections 506 and 186 of the IPC for threatening to kill and obstruction in duty of a government official has been registered at the Choupal police station on the basis of a complaint from SDM Choupal Ramesh Thakur. Investigations are on.

The SP said the SDM had sent a written complaint earlier last month to Shimla Deputy Commissioner J S Rana,who had referred the complaint to him.

On the basis of the complaint,the police registered the FIR, said Sharma.

The SDM has alleged in the complaint that the MLA had called him on

March 5 and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not cooperate in getting the works done in his constituency.

Manglet denied the charges and said he had no information of any complaint against him. Filing of a case a month after the incident proves malicious intention of the officer against me, he said.

In the Assembly,I had raised the issue of irresponsible attitude of the SDM on many occasions like the tension in Choupal after the incident of cow slaughter in February and a recent case of car accident. It seems he wants to settle the scores, he said.

I have already given a notice in the Assembly before the Speaker for moving a Privilege Motion against the SDM,for trying to infringe upon rights and authority of an elected representative. The Speaker has accepted the notice, he said.
