PM to honour PU V-C for lifetime achievement

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present a gold medal to Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti him for his significant contribution to the development of science and technology in the country. Sobti will be honoured at the 98th Indian Science Congress session to be held in Chennai on January 3,2011.

The V-C received a communication received from Prof K C Pandey,general president of the Indian Science Congress Association,Kolkata,on Tuesday. It says: “You have played a key role in the development of science and technology,and considering your contributions and achievements,the 98th Indian Science Congress will honour you with General President’s Gold Medal¿”

Congratulating Sobti,Pandey said: “The association has always admired the tenor of Indian scientists,who brave various odds and still shine and set examples for future generations.”

Sobti has already been honoured with a large number of national and international awards,medals and other honours in recognition of his contributions to scientific research and academic excellence. Padma Shri is one of them.
