Pinjore MC scam: challan filed

The State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) on Monday filed the challan in the Rs 1-crore Pinjore Municipal Committee scam in which the officials and councillors had colluded to prepare false bills to draw the money on setting up of street lights and removal of scrap from the roads.

According to officials,a challan was filed against the former president of the municipal committee,Kuldeep Singh,and against some suspended officials of the committee in the scam. During the investigation by the SVB,the irregularity in the case was established.

Investigations revealed that false bills were prepared to draw the money for the setting up of street lights and removal of scrap from the roads as well as cleaning of septic tanks.

State Vigilance officials said that while charges could not be established against two of the accused in the case,against 15 others,the charges were established.

While one of the officials has died,one councillor,Avinash Kaur,has been declared as a proclaimed offender in the case. Officials said that the challan was filed on Monday against 11 people,adding that subsequently a supplementary challan will also be filed against the other accused.

“It was found that in gross violation of rules false bills were being drawn,” said an official.
