Before introducing the semester system in undergraduate courses,Panjab University authorities have decided to take feedback from postgraduate students in colleges where the system was recently implemented. Though the decision to include undergraduate courses under the semester system has been postponed till the 2013-14 academic session,it would entirely depend on the feedback from the colleges.
As the semester system has been recently introduced in the postgraduate courses offered in colleges, its introduction in undergraduate courses has been kept for 2013 and after taking its feedback. The response will be taken from affiliated colleges and the University examination branch. As the University is not in the favour of imposing the semester system to all the colleges without considering the feedback,it will be only implemented after taking due suggestions and recommendations from all the quarters, said the University Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti.
The decision to review the decision has reportedly been prompted by a number of requests from affiliated colleges and some resentment from the Universitys examination branch over the introduction of the semester system in undergraduate courses.
The Universitys examination branch has already put in a request, urging varsity officials to postpone the introduction of the semester system, citing the need to avoid an extra burden.
Even affiliated colleges have objected to the proposal by claiming that the initiative will be an additional burden and would cause other bottlenecks. The idea of the semester system has run into rough weather earlier as well. Its implementation in postgraduate courses was postponed by a year after several objections, before it was finally introduced this academic session.
