A 20-member delegation from Lawrence College Ghora Gali,Muree Hills (Punjab),Pakistan will grace the prize distribution ceremony of Hodson Run,one of the historical annual cross country races and most popular sporting events of The Lawrence School,Sanawar to be held on April 15.
The delegation will comprise of the Principal,Air Commodore (Retired) Farooq H Kiyani,staff and students of Lawrence College Pakistan.
Both the schools in India and Pakistan were co-founded by Sir Henry Lawrence during the pre-independence era. Air Commodore (Retired) Farooq H Kiyani will be the chief guest during the prize giving ceremony of Hodson Run.
Besides being a unique opportunity and honour to host our brethren school,it will also strengthen our bonds of amity and peace between the two nations. After all,both schools share a common history and ethos,founded by the same person Sir Henry Lawrence and we also share the same school emblem and motto ‘Never Give in, says Praveen Vasisht,Headmaster of The Lawrence School,Sanawar.
The Pakistani delegation will cross the Wagah Border into India on 12th April and will proceed for Beas and stay overnight at Dera Beas. Thereafter it will leave for Chandigarh and reach Sanawar by evening on April 13.
The next day the members will call on Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal,Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
The delegation will attend the Hodson Run ceremony on April 15 at Sanawar before leaving for Delhi and Agra to visit places of historical importance.
This long distance race which is run by the entire school is named in the memory of Major William Stephen Rakes Hodson,a young promising officer who engaged himself deeply in building and starting of the school as a military asylum in 1847. In 1857 Major Hodson raised a cavalry regiment Hodsons Horse in British Army which exists today as the 4th Horse Regiment in the Indian Army.
Incidentally,while Sanawar traditionally celebrates its Founders each year in early October for a host of practical reasons,Sanawar was actually founded on 15th April,1847,one of the oldest co-educational residential school in the world.
