Over 64 pc polling in Ambala

Over 64 percent votes were polled in the Ambala Reserved Parliamentary constituency today.

Over 64 percent votes were polled in the Ambala Reserved Parliamentary constituency today.

The vote percentage was the highest in the rural Assembly segment of Naraingarh,at 75.73 per cent. This was followed by Mullana reserved Assembly segment with 74.75 percent.

The voting pattern in the urban segments was comparatively lower,with the exception of Jagadhri Assembly segment,where it stood at 75 per cent. Panchkula district comprising Kalka and Panchkula Assembly segments trailed with only 58 percent voting. However,voting in Sadhaura,Yamunanagar,Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment Assembly segments ranged between 61 to 65.45 percent. The poll percentage in this Lok Sabha is rated moderately good as per overall voting reports in the country.

The election was peaceful and free of any untoward incident today. Reports coming from all the nine assembly segments indicate that the election started with slow voting in the first round from 7 to 10 am,which was 32 percent. However,it picked up in the second round,taking the voting to 58.76 per cent. In the final round,the overall voting percentage touched over 67 per cent.

The main contenders in this reserved Lok Sabha constituency are Union Minister Kumari Selja of the Congress,former BJP MP Rattan Lal Kataria,and Chanderpal of BSP.

Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) has fielded a dark horse,Dalbir Balmiki. Supporters of the three candidates made claims of their victory on conclusion of the polling today.
