Over 6,000 take IIT-JEE,say maths ‘difficult’

Nearly 6,000 students from the tricity gathered at over 10 centres across the city to take a shot at the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admissions to the coveted Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on Sunday.

While most students appeared nervous, parents too could not hide their anxiety.

The IIT-JEE was held in two shifts, each of three-hour duration, with a break of two hours in between the shifts.

While the question paper drew a mixed response,a majority of the students judged the mathematics portion as difficult.

“The mathematics section was lengthy. For those not good at the subject, this is going to be tough nut to crack,” said Ansh Sharma,a student.

For another student,Kriti Joshi, the paper did not throw up any nightmares. “Physics and chemistry were a breeze compared to mathematics. The paper was not as tough as I expected it to be,” added Joshi.

The experts, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the paper.

“The paper was in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the IIT. The question paper was set in such a way that both, the average student and the above-average,will be able to derive maximum benefit from it,” said Prof S C Gupta.
