One booked for theft

The accused was nabbed on the spot by the onlookers and was handed over to the police.

UT police has booked Rakesh,a resident of Mohali who attempted to snatch a bag from an elderly man at the dividing road of Sector 21 and 22 on Monday. The accused was nabbed on the spot by the onlookers and was handed over to the police.

According to a police official: “Rakesh spotted 80-year-old Rattan Singh Bajwa coming out of a bank in Sector 17. As the elderly man hired a cycle rickshaw to return home,Rakesh started to follow him on foot”.

The official further said: “When the rickshaw reached the round about at the Sector 21 and Sector 22 dividing road,he tried to snatch Bajwa’s bag containing Rs 3 lakhs. Failing to get a grip of the bag,he was nabbed by a youngster passing by. Seeing this,a police constable who was standing nearby rushed to the spot and arrested the accused”.

The accused has been booked on charged of attempt to snatch.
