Rajbir Deswal has published the reflective pieces he wrote for newspapers over the years
His reflective pieces in newspapers,or middles as they are popularly known, deal with a variety of subject and situations: human relations,Bollywood movies, customs, philosophy, psychology, health and work. Now,Rajbir Deswal, writer and DIG,CID Haryana, has compiled and published them in a book entitled Write in the Middle:I Holypol. The book was released today at the Press Club.
Deswal has been writing for more than 25 years now and his collection exceeds 600 pieces. The book, which is available on Kindle as well, contains only 65 of these, and more volumes are planned. While Deswal has written books on humour, culture and poetry, middles is a genre that is closest to his heart. Not surprisingly,he rues the fact that many newspapers are now discontinuing the practice of publishing such pieces. The pieces are light, with serious overtones, and it is a wonderful way to put forward the intricacies and ironies of life, with both wit and sarcasm, he adds. I was also a journalist once and was encouraged to write by short story writer Ka Na Subramanyam. It helped that I was a student of English literature, he says.
The books title,Holypol,is a humorous take on Deswals profession. Many of my writings are a satirical commentary on the functioning of the police today. The holy cop,a fictional policeman based in heaven, takes away my baton in one of the pieces. The book,Deswal believes, will be a captivating read.
