A group show in the city showcases various moods of nature
After seven solos,10 group shows,12 workshops and five demonstration sessions in Jalandhar, members of Artdot,a registered organisation for promotion of visual art, still thought that it was not doing enough to introduce art to the masses. We wanted to explore more places and showcase the greenery of the region. Through our work,we aspired to showcase the true essence of Punjab the women in the state and the way religion is practiced, says graphic artist Taljit Singh, who, along with ten other artists hosted the groups first show outside outside Jalandhar,in Chandigarh.
Titled Insight 11 the exhibition at Punjab Kala Bhawan showcases various moods of nature and women. If celebrated artist Surjit Kaur brings forth a womans emotions and her connect to nature,Shashi K Rampal reflects the dichotomy between looking and perceiving through works that capture landscapes and flowers.
As for Sukhvinder Singh,an art teacher, his collection in mixed media, shows Budha in meditative form. Done in shades of grey, they inspire one to introspect. Also, inspiring spirituality is Lalita Sharmas Gayatri Mantra, with Hindi shlokas written on a painting of Lord Shiva.
Manifesting memories through her works is Kuljit Kaur, who brings abstract scenes from nature. The idea is to depict harmonies of nature. The silent moods, the furious motions, the tranquil depths and pleasant peaks, says Kaur. Taljit Singh showcases his works, which are also available in digital prints abstracts in water colours, where bright hues merge to bring forth paintings of birds and women.
Our works are amalgamation of diverse experiences. It is a visual realisation of feelings and sensibilities, says Suruchi,an artist. In one of her works titled Bride, one can clearly see the face of the bride but cannot make out if shes happy, sad or anxious.
The exhibition is on at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,till November 25
