Now,colleges to submit excess fee refund applications to PU

In a circular issued, the Panjab University has revised its previous decision, where it had made it mandatory for students to collect in person the excess re-evaluation fee paid by them.

In a circular issued on Friday, the Panjab University (PU) has revised its previous decision, where it had made it mandatory for students to collect in person the excess re-evaluation fee paid by them.

According to the revised instructions, now it is the responsibility of the colleges to collect applications for refund and forward it to university authorities.

Also, the last date to submit the applications has been extended from February 28 to March 31. The decision comes in response to recent protests by NSUI activists.

Earlier, the university had withdrawn the hike in re-evaluation and examination fees and also agreed to refund the excess fees collected from students. But this came with a rider that for seeking a refund, the students will have to submit written applications to the deputy registrar (examinations) of PU and that too by February 28. No communication was sent to affiliated colleges in this regard.

Now,this revised circular has been sent to the principals of all affiliated colleges, chairpersons of all teaching departments, directors of all regional centres and heads of university branches and offices.

In an memorandum submitted to PU vice-chancellor on Friday,NSUI vice-president Sunny Mehta has demanded that all refunds should be sent to students, without the need submit applications. Terming the pre-condition of submission of applications as impractical and unreasonable,Sunny claimed that it is the responsibility of the university to refund the excess fees on its own.

A large number of students studying in PU’s affiliated colleges live in far-off areas. They cannot be expected to travel all the way to Chandigarh to submit applications for a refund,he said.
