Notwithstanding tall RLA claims,RC pendency piling up

Be it for faulty printer or shortage of cards or the latest being the cancellation of a previous auction,the officials have many excuses to give to the harassed public for the delay in delivering the document.

This is despite the fact that the RLA is one of the most revenue-earning department.

To make matters worse,the recent implementation of the High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) has added to the woes of the residents who have to now even wait for an HSRP affixed before they can drive out their vehicles.

On average,the RLA office in Sector 17 is visited by over 1,500 people every day who have to stand in long serpentine queues for hours together to get their documents. While the officials have recently sorted out the pendency of driving licences by keeping a two-hour deadline for delivery,they are yet to take a call on time-bound delivery of RCs.

When contacted,Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) Jairam said,“The pendency is not much and we are working hard to clear the backlog. RCs are pending due to the cancellation of a recent auction after which we had to put on hold the delivery of the entire lot of new series. In fact,to clear the pendency now,we have already opened booking for the new series.”

However,a visit to the RLA office on Monday revealed chaos at the office with residents waiting for hours together to get their RCs. Many of them even had to go empty-handed.

The problem has increased due the fact that Sector 42 office catering to southern sectors and SDM East office catering to Manimajra residents and phase III sectors that serve as branches of the Sector 17 office of RLA are not functioning as independent offices.
