It is hard to miss the confident stride with which Saurabh Sarbwal walks to the stage as the music begins to play. “This is the first time that I am on stage, but I have rehearsed my steps many times in my dreams,” he says. This is the inter-slum dance competition and only those with fleet feet and flexible bodies can make a mark. A short distance away,Rahul Birla,Vishwas and Karamjeet Singh from Colony No 25 are rehearsing their moves. “We never get a chance to showcase our talent,so this competition is a golden opportunity,” says Vishwas,as he demonstrates a dance move he has been perfected over the last two months.

Organised by the NGO Purple Knights, the contest involved children of Colony No 5,Nehru Colony,Naya Gaon,Jagatpura and Indra Colony among others. Neil Roberts of the NGO informs that 90 children were participating. “There are 16 solo acts and nine group dances,” chips in Ashima Agnes, another member of the NGO,adding that the children performed dances from Bollywood and Hollywood tracks as well as to classical music.
