Nineismine campaign to be launched today

As many as 700 school children are going to participate in the official launch of the website - NINEISMINE (www.nineismine.in) on Monday morning at 9.09 am.

As many as 700 school children are going to participate in the official launch of the website – NINEISMINE (www.nineismine.in) on Monday morning at 9.09 am. The website shall be launched at St Stephen’s School Auditorium,Sector 45 and various private and public schools’ children shall be attending the function. As part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign of children,led by the Wada Na Todo Abhiyan,a national campaign to hold the government accountable to its promise to end poverty and social exclusion and discrimination – toward meeting the United Nations Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). On July 18 – the 93 rd birthday of Nelson Mandela – the United Nations is joining a call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67 minutes for helping others,as a way to mark Nelson Mandela International Day. Presently,children are using Facebook to promote the cause. More than 10,000 members have already joined,within a few days of setting up the nineismine page on the facebook. The signature campaign has already drawn in over one lakh signatures of children across the country. The NINEISMINE campaign invites children to devote 67 seconds of their day to end poverty and social exclusion particularly of children in India. A webpage with the url http://www.nineismine.in has been designed by NINEISMINE student campaigners of Chandigarh. Each time a user registers on the website,it contributes Rs 9 to the NINEISMINE campaign.
