The stunning set of Ladyboys,a dancing troupe from Thailand,is here to bedazzle the city with all the right moves
They are called Thailands women of the second kind, the third sex transgenders who have strapped on their stilettos and danced their way to success for the past 25 years. Known for their foot-tapping and sensual performances, the troupe comes to India for the first time. And they are here to entertain. With nine shows slated over the weekend and a grand finale on Sunday at the Tagore theatre, they are all set to regale the city audience today onwards with a mix of music, pomp and show.
In Chandigarh, the troupe is all prepped up with 16 ladyboys and five boys to bedazzle the audience. Flying in the troupe for the performances in the city are city-based friends Tuneet Walia and Dr Rajni Lamba as a part of the Fantasy and Feathers concert 2011. Ive been visiting Thailand for years now,and I never come back without seeing a Ladyboy performance, and so,I thought why not bring the same to Chandigarh, says Walia, who is a Chandigarh-based businesswoman.
The highlight of the show is the troupes version of Munni badnaam hui and Sheila ki jawani ,for which city-based choreographer and salsa champion Varun DS Rana has trained them. Rana spent ten days with the troupe in Thailand to train them in Bollywood style. These dancers do not care what people say or think. They just dance, and you should see them their energy levels, moves, nuances are simply irresistible. Once on stage, they are electrifying, says Rana who has Misha dancing to Munni,Jacqueline to Sheila and Tammy to Chaiyya Chaiyya.
The show will also have dazzling sets and backdrops to showcase Bangkoks exotic nightlife. We are planning to have a colourful combination of costumes, dazzling lights and innovative sets, says Pom about the troupe that performs for at least six months in a year in Britain alone. After Chandigarh,The Ladyboys travel to Ludhiana for a slew of performances there.
