With the assistance of NGOs and individuals,the UT Administration is in the process of implementing various welfare schemes drawn up under the Partnership Initiative Programme.
Home Secretary Ram Niwas said a mega health camp will be organised at a school in Colony No 4 on July 6 in partnership with private doctors,NGOs and the Indian Medical Association. Similar camps in Colony Number 5,Bapu Dham and villages of the city will be conducted.
A delegation of Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC) met the Home Secretary and presented a partnership plan to undertake a plantation drive in the city.
FOSWAC president P C Sanghi said that various residents welfare associations (RWA) had prepared an action plan to initiate plantation during the monsoon season and offered to put up tree guards,supplied by the Forest department,to protect the plants.
The Home Secretary added that the Municipal Corporation had already convened a meeting of RWAs to work out the modalities of sanitation and garbage removal system.
DPI (Schools) Samwartak Singh,who is the co-ordinator of the out of school programme has already facilitated a round of discussions with various NGOs and is ready with an action plan for adoption of various schools for the purpose of imparting education to out of school students.
Director Social Welfare has also prepared a list of social activists,human rights activists and legal luminaries for regular visits to various projects of the Administration including Nari Niketan,Aashreya and Juvenile Justice Home.
Meet on plantation held
A meeting of NGOs and volunteers who want to take up a plantation drive was held at the Botanical Garden in Sarangpur village on Friday. The meeting was conducted by the Conservator of Forests and the nodal officer as part of a Partnership Initiative Program. The nodal officer demonstrated the methodology of plantationpit digging,sizing,plantation,soil-manure mixture,anti-termite treatment et al.
