‘Need to understand modern security threats’

A two-day workshop on ‘Advances in Information Security’ was organised at the Punjab Engineering College on Tuesday by the Department of Information Technology,Chandigarh Administration. Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the workshop,focusing on all technical and practical aspects of security and its applications for wired and wireless networks.

Delivering his keynote address,Kumar said technology is developing very fast today and it is the use it is put to that makes it good or bad. He said the time has come to evolve safety measures and convince people that electronic form is much safer than physical form. Emphasis,therefore,should be on building trust in today’s IT systems so that significant contributions in the fields of economic growth,sustainable development and good governance can be made with the right use of technology,he added.

Dr Vijay Kaushal,officiating director and deputy director,PEC,said the goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academics and industry to focus on understanding modern security threats and counter measures and establishing new collaborations in these areas.
