The Chandigarh Police on Wednesday reinstated sub-inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon and four other policemen who were facing a departmental inquiry following charges of nexus with drug peddlers were levelled against them in a report submitted by the Narcotic Control Bureau last year.
A senior police officer said the departmental inquiry, ordered by IGP S K Jain on October 13,gave a clean chit to Sekhon and head constables Sukhjinder Singh alias Bhola,Bachittar Singh,Mohan Singh and Kuldeep Singh. A notice of dismissal was earlier issued to head constable Baljit Singh and he had been asked to clear his stance before action could be initiated against him.
In another decision, the police promoted SI Udhay Pal Singh,in charge of the Bapu Dham police post, and SI Jaswinder Singh of the community relations unit as inspectors. The police have also reinstated head constable Mohinder Singh and constable Anil Kumar, who were placed under suspension following allegations made by a shopkeeper in Sector 37.
