Hosts Mount Carmel School,Chandigarh made a winning start when they outplayed Bal Bharti Gangaram,Delhi 2-0 in the girl’s Under-14 category on the inaugural day of the CBSE North Zone I Tennis Tournament for boys and girls played at Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,on Saturday.

Nimrit Walia rallied to defeat Rhea 6-1 before Joanna Thomas thumped Shreya 6-1 to make it 2-0 for the school. In another match,Delhi Public School,Chandigarh,routed Modern School,Barakhamba Road,Delhi 2-0. Charvi Saxena blanked Bhavi 6-0,while Saumya Saxena got the better of Carnie 6-2. Meanwhile,in the girls’ Under-19 category,DAV Model School,Sector 15 prevailed over Modern School,Barakhamba,Delhi 2-1. Shilpa lost her first match to Garima 1-6 but Jasnish took the school back on track with a 6-1 win over Akanksha. Shilpa and Jasnish partnered to defeat the duo of Garima and Akanksha 6-3 in a doubles match.
