FOR the first time in the history of the Post-Graduate Institute
of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),doctors from the cardiology department gave first live performance
in interventional cardiology.
There were a total of 11 centres, which were telecasting
cardiology surgeries. Out of 11,eight were national centres,
including PGIMER,and three were international
(USA,Italy and Germany). On Sunday,a live case performance was transmitted from PGIMER for the
Advanced Cardio Vascular Solutions Conference in Hyderabad.
It was in collaboration with Transcatheter Cardiovascular
Therapeutics (USA),an interventional
cardiology forum. From PGIMER,the main
interventional cardiologists were Dr S Reddy and Dr Shiv
Bagga,assisted by their resident
doctors.
On Sunday,a team of doctors gave first live performance
from the operation theatre to hundreds of cardiologists
sitting in Hyderabad, said Dr S Reddy. The patient
was an elderly woman who refused CABG (bypass surgery).
The angioplasty was complex and was performed
using latest techniques of OCT (optical coherence tomography).
He said that the case they dealt with was very complex
and adjudged as the most tough and best case for live
transmission.
The presentation was seen by more than 500 cardiologists
from all over the world. The whole purpose of such
live case presentations is to educate and improve competence
and performance of leading cardiologists in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr S Reddy added.
Dr Reddy and Dr Bagga were trained abroad for latest
technical skills.
